TIPS FOR SPRING CLEANING YOUR MOVEMENT ROUTINE

Move every day.

It doesn’t always have to be an organized movement practice or formal workout. Some days it is good to “follow the body” and simply explore gentle movements throughout the day. I sometimes call this “taking inventory.” This is helpful just to know what’s moving, what’s not, what’s tight, what’s loose, etc. This can inform us to make better movement choices throughout the day and know where we are at.

Work with a movement professional.

Let me tell you a little secret. Even movement professionals use movement professionals. You just can’t do it alone, and a trained set of eyes on things can open so many doors you didn’t know were there. My clients utilize me at different frequencies depending on their unique needs. It’s worth the investment when you also have a good teacher who makes your movement time translate to the unique needs of your life. You’re welcome. 😉

Vary your movement activities.

Clients and I often establish daily movements that give us a high payoff. I suggest these movements be revisited throughout the day, often before changing movement activities like going from working on a screen to going on a walk. That way, we can get that payoff and let our brain recognize that pattern before doing a different or more complex activity.

Try something new.

I recommend trying something new. Maybe try a movement modality you’ve always wanted to explore. Try changing your environment. For example, if you always do movement indoors, try to get outside. If you always take classes, try a self-guided workout. Be open-minded but aware of your limits and the strategies that help you personally approach movement. Trying something new is a great way to also test your progress!
